Humanism

Our approach is people-centered, focusing on improving social justice and civic participation.

Freedom

We work towards a society where everyone can make decisions for themselves without fear of persecution.

Tolerance

Everyone is created equal and deserves to live with dignity and respect.

Independent

We are not the mouthpiece of any governments or interest groups. We reject all forms of censorship, including self-censorship.

Nonpartisan

We are a civil society organization that has no affiliation with any political parties.

Nonprofit

LIV is registered in the United States as a 501(c)(3) organization. We are organized for public interest and not generating profit.

Media Program

There is no democracy without press freedom. We are making free press a reality in Vietnam by practicing quality journalism and training independent journalists. We are running two magazines:

Advocacy program

We advocate for human rights, democracy and the rule of law in both national and international levels. We focus on: 

  • Criminal justice, including fair trials and the abolition of the death penalty.
  • Freedom of the press.
  • Internet freedom.

Research program

We strongly believe in the role of think tanks in democratic developments. This program focuses on: 

  • Constitutional reform.
  • Democratization.
  • Political culture.

Trinh, Huu Long

Tran, Vi

A Taipei-based journalist and a US-trained lawyer. Vi is in charge of advocacy and external affairs. She is also an anti-death penalty advocate, with specific focus on the wrongful convictions in Vietnam. Read her writings here and here.
